Janette Panhuis
Chair
Janette has extensive experience in the healthcare field having started her work career as a registered nurse with Toronto General Hospital and moving through successive health and research management positions to Chief Operating Officer at PHRI, an academic research institute affiliated with McMaster University which she retired from in June 2022. Janette’s previous board activity includes other not-for-profit research network and volunteer activity focused mainly in the school community with Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) including chair of the regional PIC. Living in Georgetown, she places high value in contributing to community, is passionate about healthcare, and is eager to be part of providing quality end-of-life care.
John Palmer
Vice Chair
John retired after 30 years working in various senior management positions in the corporate offices in the banking sector. John’s last position was Director, Compliance and Operational Risk at the Bank of Montreal. Since his retirement in 2017, John has volunteered at Bethell Hospice and has held volunteer positions with the Town of Caledon’s Senior Task Force and the Palgrave Rotary Club. He is currently on the management team for the Bolton and District Probus Club. John holds a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Toronto and a Project Management Certificate from Boston University. John and his wife are longtime residents of Caledon raising two daughters in the community and are happy grandparents of two granddaughters who also live in Caledon.
Lynn Dobson
Past Chair
Lynn retired after a lengthy career with Peel Regional Police and Peel Regional Police Association as a civilian member. At the conclusion of her career, Lynn was the Chief Administrative Officer with the Association. She is also on the Board of Directors for Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club as the Membership and Volunteer Director. Lynn has always lived in Brampton and has previous volunteer experience on the Board with Habitat for Humanity. Lynn enjoys supporting various charitable causes through cycling and running, and hiking.
Ross Beverley
Director
Ross recently retired after developing a successful business and is enjoying consulting and volunteer opportunities. Ross volunteered in various roles at Bethell since 2019 and determined he would like to volunteer on the Board. 2021 is his first term on the Board and he brings a wealth of business management experience to the Board along with a thorough understanding of the day-to-day operation at Bethell Hospice. Ross has an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, York University and a BA in Economics from the University of Western.
Muneerah Kanji
Treasurer
Muneerah is a seasoned senior financial executive with over 20 years of experience in both private and public companies spanning many industries; she is a Chartered Professional Accountant and holds a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University. Volunteerism and giving back to the community have always been an integral part of Muneerah’s life since her youth and she continues this involvement today in various capacities with her daughter’s school & activities as well as within her community. She lives in Brampton with her husband and has an adult son and a school-aged daughter.
Adam Lis
Director
Adam was admitted to the bar in 2011 and is currently working at a pharmaceutical firm in Mississauga providing legal support in regards to agreements; regulatory matters; privacy issues; human resources and litigation management. Adam joined the Board in 2021 as a director. Adam is an avid racket sport enthusiast who also enjoys basketball analytics, board games and resides in Etobicoke.
Melodie Mason
Director
Melodie recently retired from a lengthy career in Human Resources where she worked for large multinationals in diverse industries such as consumer goods, logistics solutions and retail pharmacy. Melodie’s last position was Vice President, Total Rewards for a standards development organization. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Headwaters Health Care Centre. Melodie holds the Chartered Director designation from The Director’s College as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Brock University. She is a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and holds several other HR certifications. Melodie has lived in the Town of Mono for almost 30 years with her husband and has an adult daughter.
Michele Beals
Director
Michele has extensive experience within the Ontario Health System having held progressively financial and strategic executive roles within three large Ontario Hospitals. She has a Chartered Accountant designation and Masters of Business Administration from the Schulich School of Business and will be helping support financial and operational governance at Bethell. Michele currently holds the position of CFO, Vice President of Finance at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and resides in Brampton with her family.
Shellina Haji
Director
Shellina immigrated to Canada from East Africa and completed her high school/post-secondary education in Toronto. She is a graduate from University of Toronto in Computer Science and Mathematics and has been consulting for over 20 years in public and private sectors specializing in eCommerce, ERP and Cloud technologies. Volunteer work has been part of her DNA for over 30 years and has given her time and knowledge to various projects within her community. Shellina enjoys reading, movies, hiking, gardening, yoga and swimming. She is a resident of Brampton for the past 22 years and lives with her husband and two sons.
