In Home Volunteer Visiting

In-home visiting support is provided by specially-trained volunteers. Visiting volunteers can provide a reassuring presence, companionship and comfort, both for individuals living with life-limiting illness, and for their home caregivers and family members.  Additionally, our volunteers can provide respite for caregivers who need a break from their caregiving.  Individuals receiving the service can choose how they wish to spend their time with the volunteer during these visits, which typically occur once a week for one to three hours.

Examples of volunteer activities during an in-home visit are:

  • Preparing a light snack or refreshment
  • Playing cards
  • Reading aloud
  • Listening to music
  • Looking at photographs
  • Writing letters
  • Assisting with legacy projects
  • Talking
  • Sharing quiet presence
  • Providing comfort care– hand holding, gentle hand or foot massage
